A research on multiculturalism studies in education

Multicultural education means an equal and fair education that embraces the differences of every student. In the globalizing world, multicultural education has become increasingly important and has been the subject of research. In this thesis, an answer is sought to the question of what is the distribution of multicultural education studies and it is aimed to present a holistic view on the subject. Accordingly, multicultural education research in the world and in Turkey has been examined using descriptive content analysis. The study is population consist of multicultural research,and the sample consists of multicultural education studies. In this study, It were used search engines which is ULAKBİM, YÖKTEZ, Google Scholar and studies on the subject were collected according to the data collection form created within the scope of the research. In this thesis, examined 711 research in world, 273 research in Turkey, totally 984 research. The findings in the study are presented with figures and graphics using MS Office Excel program. In this study, the findings were examined under three title. It has been determined that first of all, multicultural education studies in the world started in 1974, and the most studies were written in 2009-2010 and the most articles were written. Multicultural education studies in the world have been carried out in cooperation with 42 different countries and 20 countries, and 74% of the studies are in the USA. In the analysis of the studies according to the subject distribution, it was seen that the subjects were mostly included in the Multicultural Education in Countries and Approaches-Theories-Philosophies categories . It has been determined that studies on multicultural education in Turkey started in 2003, articles and proceedings started in 2005 and theses started in 2008. It was seen that the most studies on multicultural education were made in 2019, the most articles as a genre, and the master's theses in theses. It is seen that Turkish as the working language and female participants are mostly preferred in multicultural education studies in Turkey. It detected to most used keyword is '' Multicultural Education'', ''Multiculturalism'' and '' Teacher-Pre Service Teacher''. It was seen that the most preferred study groups in the examined studies were teachers and teacher candidates, and purposeful sampling was used. In studies on multicultural education, it has been seen that scales are mostly preferred as data collection tools and attitude scales are preferred as scale type. In the studies on the subject, it is seen that the Marmara Region is mostly preferred. After the Marmara Region, the studies were carried out in Central Anatolia in articles and proceedings and in Eastern Anatolia in theses. Studies in articles and proceedings were mostly carried out in mixed departments and in primary education and in Social Studies Teaching. The theses on multicultural education were mostly made in Marmara University and in Istanbul. 61% of theses were done at the Institute of Educational Sciences, 34% at the Institute of Social Sciences, and 5% at other institutes and in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. A sample size of 1-50, at least 951+ in articles and proceedings, and 201-300 in theses was preferred. It has been seen that quantitative and qualitative researches are used equally in articles and proceedings, while quantitative researches are used more in theses. In articles and proceedings, mostly document analysis in qualitative research, case study in theses, and descriptive studies in quantitative research were carried out. As a data analysis method, predictive statistics were used in quantitative research and content analysis was used in qualitative research. As a result, multicultural education studies in Turkey started 29 years after the studies in the world and it is a subject that has been working on it for about 18 years. Multicultural education studies were carried out mostly in 2016 and 2018. In general, the subject distribution of the studies on multicultural education is in the categories of Education-Teaching, Identity, Culture, Attitude-Perception-Opinion, etc., Teacher-Teacher Candidates, Social Structure, Globalization.
