The effect of training on patients with primary constipation regarding constipation severity and quality of life

Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted in order to examine the impact of nursing training on constipation severity and quality of life given to the patients diagnosed with primary constipation according to Rome III criteria and to make suggestions in accordance with the results obtained. The research is done on randomly selected, an experimental group of 40 and a control group of 40, a group of 80 total individuals with constipation in the treatment and follow-up process in a gastroenterology outpatient clinic of a public hospital located in the province of Gaziantep between April and October 2014. As data collection tools Constipation Questionnaire (CQ), Constipation Severity Scoring (CSS), Constipation Quality of Life Questionnaire (CQLQ) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used. As a result of this study, average of total CQLQ points before training was 85,35±7,03 and decreased to 60,85±5,65 after training (p<0,001) on the experimental group, there was no change in control group and the difference between the control group and the experimental group after training was determined to be statistically significant (p<0,05). Also, average of total CSS points before training was 43.42±5.46 and decreased to 20,17±4,05 after training (p<0,001) on the experimental group, there was no change in control group and the difference between the control group and the experimental group after training was determined to be statistically significant (p<0,05). In accordance with these results, in order to ensure positive changes on healthy lifestyle behaviors of the individuals diagnosed with primary constipation, it is advisible to give them the health training including main topics such as healthy diet, regular physical activity, toilet habits, abdominal massage and daily fluid intake.
