Abstract (EN)
The first aim of this study was to determine reliability and validity for Turkish exercise participants of The Physical Appearance Perfectionism Scale which has been developed by Yang and Stoeber (2012). The second purpose of this study was to examine effects of the exercise participants' physical appearance perfectionism and psychological well-being levels on exercise participation motivation. In the first study about adapting to Turkish exercise participants of The Physical Appearance Perfectionism Scale, the sample is consist of 320 exercise participants which are 170 female and 150 male. The exploratory factor analysis resulted in a solution containing two factors accounting for 70% of the variance in the items. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, the fit indices for this scale are calculated as χ²/sd= 128.95/50=2.57, RMSEA=.07, SRMR=.06, GFI=.94, AGFI=.90, NFI=.95; NNFI =.96, CFI=.97. In addition to these findings, Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the scale were also found .90 for worry about imperfection and .92 for hope for perfectionism. After reliability and validity studies, it is examined effects on exercise participation motivation of the exercise participants' psychological well-being and physical appearance perfectionism levels. For this study, the sample are consist of 532 exercise participants which are 296 female and 236 male. Participants completed Behavioral Regulation Exercise Questionnaire 2 (BREQ-2), Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire (PWBQ) and Physical Appearance Perfectionism Scale (PAPS).In the analysis of the data, it has been used descriptive analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple regression analysis with stepwise. When the results are examined, it has been determined that intrinsic motivation had a positive correlation with the psychological well-being but a negative correlation with the worry about imperfection. Introjected regulation had positive correlations with the hope for perfectionism and psychological well-being. Regarding the correlations between perfectionism and external regulations and amotivation, all correlations were significant and in the expected direction. In contrast, external regulation and amotivation had positive correlations with the psychological well-being. As expected, it has been found that the most significant predictor of intrinsic motivation is psychological well-being. The worry about imperfection was the greatest predictor for external regulation. Key words: Physical appearance perfectionism, exercise, motivation, psychological well-being.
