Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise on apelin level. Eighteen healthy male volunteers aged 19-28 participated in the study. The participants were then randomly divided into two groups (exercise and control), and the exercise group participated in a training program consisting of resistance exercises for eight weeks. Before the exercise, the intensity of individual exercise was determined by 10TM test. According to these intensities, the participants have applied the resistance exercise training program with 55% of exercise intensity (10 repetitions) during the first 1- 2 weeks of the resistance exercise training program; with 75% of exercise intensity (10 repetitions) during 3-5 weeks of the resistance exercise training program; and with 75-75% - 80-85% of exercise intensity (6-5-4-3 repetitions) during 6-8 weeks of the resistance exercise training program. In the control trial, the participants continued their normal life without any training program for 8 weeks. In the study, blood samples were taken from the participants 3 times, before the exercise (1st week), in the middle (4th week) and after the exercise (8th week), to examine some hormone and blood parameters. Data were analyzed using a repeated measures two-way ANOVA. Although there was no significant difference (p <0.05) in plasma apelin and plasma leptin concentration after the exercise, a significant decrease in plasma obestatin concentration (p <0.05) and a significant increase in plasma insulin concentration (p <0.05) were detected. As a result; it was concluded that apelin and leptin hormone levels were not affected by the long-term resistance exercise, and yet obestatin and insulin hormone levels were significantly affected.
