Evaluation of houses within the scope of ecology and sustainability

Uncontrolled consumption of energy resources will have inevitable effects in the long term. As architects, our responsibility is to take precautions against environmental problems such as climate change that will arise as the ecosystem begins to deteriorate. The most effective way to prevent these problems is to transition to an ecological life model. However, this transformation should not be limited to certain areas, sustainable options should be preferred in every aspect of life. Within the scope of this thesis, the historical development of housing and the transformation of sustainability as a result of global construction have been examined, and it is aimed to contribute to minimizing the negative effects of the emerging problems on the future of humanity. In the context of sustainable architecture, a detailed research has been conducted by evaluating the design principles of today's housing structures. In the first part of this study, the importance of the research is emphasized. In the following part, the concepts of sustainability, ecology and environment are discussed in the context of architecture. In the third part, the principles of sustainable architecture are examined in detail. In the next part, green building certification systems are explained. In the fifth part, sustainable housing examples from Turkey and the world are analyzed. In the conclusion part, the basic findings of the research and evaluations regarding the important criteria that architects and designers who aim to design sustainable housing should take into consideration are included.
