About the half of the energy consumed in the world is structure-borne. As a result of searching for decreasing the negative effects of the structures on environment and human health, the term of `ecological building? emerged. In order to design an ecological building, the data about the environment, where the structure to be built, should be detected correctly and ecological approaches to be applied should be selected in the light of this information.First aim of this thesis study is to examine the potential of renewable energy sources and environment data of İzmir. In the scope of this research, it?s aimed to form a reference for the further studies by gathering the potential of renewable energy sources and environmental data together in one study. The second aim of the study is to propose an applicable ecological house model which will decrease the negative effects of the buildings that form the majority of the structure-borne energy consumption on environment and human health, produce its own energy and use the renewable energy sources effectively.In the direction of these aims, in the first chapter of the study, the method, scope, aim and importance of the study are explained. In the second chapter, the relationships between environment and buildings are pointed out by disclosing the basic terms like environment, energy, ecology and sustainability. In the third chapter, in the light of the terms disclosed, the principles of ecological architecture are discussed. In the fourth chapter of the study, the environmental problems in İzmir and their causes, the environmental data of İzmir and the renewable energy sources are analyzed and in the line with this analysis, the principles of ecological architecture are examined specifically basing on İzmir and a study field is determined to develop the sample of house design model.As a consequence of criteria presented and evaluation of the data, Seferihisar district of İzmir is determined to be the place with the highest potential for the ecological resources and by selecting this place to be the study field, an applicable house model has been proposed on the field and it?s submitted with cost accounts.In `?Conlusion??, the last chapter of the study, rates of building costs and recycling period of active systems taking place in the proposed house model, and evaluation and suggestions are presented.
