Agricultural support analysis from the economic liberalization period to the present: The case of Turkey

The agricultural sector in Turkey has been supported by various policies and tools in the historical process. In this study, the change created by policies and tools in the agriculture sector and economy has been examined. As a method, statistical data obtained from various databases were interpreted by comparing them with low-middle, upper-middle and high-income economies, and the relationship between the structure of the agricultural sector and the general economy with the annual data between 1986 and 2019 was examined by using the double logarithmic model EKKY. According to the results of the study, it is seen that some supports provided to the agricultural sector in Turkey are effective in increasing production. However, the increase in production of the supports provided to the agricultural sector today, when evaluated alone, is insufficient to say that the implemented policy is effective. As a matter of fact, countries such as Australia, Brazil and New Zealand, which provide relatively less support to the agricultural sector, are ahead of Turkey in agricultural export values. Therefore, the success of the increase in production in directing towards products with high added value and in exports should be questioned.
