The effect of screen reading on primary school students' reading skills and attitudes towards readingspeed) and attitudes towards reading

In this research, the effect of reading studies at different reading environment on reading skills (reading comprehension, prosodic reading, reading errors, reading speeds), attitudes towards reading and attitudes towards reading were investigated in 4th grade students. The study was carried out with 4th grade students studying in a primary school in the Western Black Sea region. In this study, which was conducted within the framework of quantitative research methods, experimental designs, pre-test and post-test control group model were used. Students; It was determined as experimental and control group randomly. In this research, the experimental group consisted of 30 students and the control group consisted of 25 students. Experimental and control group students were subjected to pre-tests to show equality of the groups. During the application, all reading activities were given in Turkish lessons on the screen to the experimental group students at the the 12 weeks of the academic year. The students of the control group were carried out the text reading activities in the Turkish courses through the textbook during the academic year. In the study screen reading comprehension questions, paper reading comprehension questions, attitudes towards reading scale, attitude towards screen reading scale and reading prosody scale were applied to both experimental and control group students According to the findings; It was observed that the experimental group students' reading comprehension scores decreased as a result of the application, their attitudes towards screen reading decreased at the end of the application, however, there was an increase in paper reading comprehension scores, there was no decrease in the reading attitudes of the experimental group students; after the screen reading studies of the experimental group students it is reached to the conclusion that it is reflected negatively to the screen reading comprehension, it was concluded that screen reading applications positively affected the screen reading comprehension and reading speed After the experimental process, error analysis inventory was applied to the experimental and control groups; The students' level of word recognition was determined as "Instructional Level. As a result, the screen reading studies did not have an effect on the experimental group students' word recognition levels.
