Özet (EN)

Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) are frequent in general population. These global diseases effect a lot of people from different populations. Recently, a good deal of studies suggested coexistence of HT with T2DM. Protein tyrosine phosphatase, non-receptor type 22 (PTPN22) C1858T polymorphism has been reported to be associated with both T2DM and HT disorders. In our study, 3 cc peripheral blood samples from 135 T2DM, 102 T2DM+Hashimoto, 71 HT cases and 135 healty controls who were consulted to Departments of internal medicine and endocrinology were collected into EDTA anticoagulated tubes and DNA was extracted. C1858T polymorphism in PTPN22 gene was analyzed with PZR-RFLP method. The rates of CC and CT genotypes in T2DM, T2DM + Hashimoto, Hashimoto and control groups were calculated as 5 in 135 (3.8%), 7 in 102 (6.86%), 5 in 71 (7.04%) and 3 in 135 (2.22%), respectively. TT genotype wasn?t found in none of the groups. There were no statistically significant differences between the patient and control groups with regard to genotypes and allele frequencies. In conclusion, according to our data the C1858T polymorphism of PTPN22 gene does not constitute any susceptibility for T2DM and HT diseases in our population.Key Words: Type 2 diabetes, hashimoto thyroidit, PTPN22, polymorphism
