The prevalance of ear diseases in cat and dogs in Elazıg and Kocaeli provinces

The basic senses that enable living things to connect with the outside world directly affect the quality of life of animals. Outer and middle ear diseases are common disorders in cats and dogs. Ear diseases are usually not noticed by their owners until the disease progresses and causes irreversible structural disorders. In this context, determining the prevalence of ear diseases in cats and dogs is important in terms of early diagnosis of ear diseases and raising awareness among animal owners. In this study, it is aimed to determine the prevalence of ear diseases in cats and dogs brought to clinics in Kocaeli and Elazig provinces. For this purpose, general ear examination of 112 cats and dogs brought to the clinic in Kocaeli and 61 cats and dogs brought to the clinic in Elazığ were performed and the ear canal and eardrum were examined with an otoscope. In addition, radiographic imaging methods (x-ray), microbiological and histopathological examinations were performed. After diagnosing the diseases, they were recorded and evaluations about ear diseases were evaluated statistically As a result of the research, it was found that the prevalence of ear diseases in Kocaeli (12.9%) is higher than Elazig (1.7%); It has been determined that improving the hygiene, feeding and housing conditions of the animals will be effective in reducing these cases, and periodic clinical examinations will allow early diagnosis of these diseases and a rapid and effective treatment process.
