ABSTRACT PhD Thesis THE NATURAL RADIOACTIVITY DETERMINATION IN ELAZI? DISTRICT Cumhur CANBAZO?LU Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Physics Department 2004, Page: 143 In this study, the natural radioactivity of Elazığ district was determined. For this purpose, the samples of water, soil, air and food were collected from Elazığ and its county centres then they prepared to be convenient for counting their radioactivity levels by using the suitable detection systems. Additionally, terrestrial gamma radiation dose rates of the area were also determined. In addition to those measurements, different types of the houses from various locations of the city centre were selected to be representing the city's houses and their 222Rn concentration in different rooms and floors was determined by using CR-39 passive detectors. The obtained data were compared to the national and international standards and the natural iso-radioactivity maps of water, soil and air for Elazığ city and its surrounding were drawn.
