Transboundary waters issue from critical geopolitical perspective: The case of Nile River

The world is divided into areas with different geographical features. From the first periods of history, people have started to determine their settlements in accordance with their needs. The fact that the strategic importance of some regions comes to the fore is a situation caused by the existing needs of people. It is also possible to see this situation as the source of the politicization of geography. In this master's thesis, the historical background of the politicization of geography is examined in the light of critical geopolitics. First, it is aimed at understanding the process leading to the formation of critical geopolitics. The effects of Critical geopolitics on the emergence of Critical geopolitics are examined by including the principles of poststructuralism. Within the framework of the thesis, the issue of transboundary waters, which are considered as a strategic resource, is discussed and the reasons for its becoming a problem are examined. The international, social, political and humanitarian dimension of the transboundary waters problem is examined in the light of the assumptions of critical geopolitics. The case study of this master's thesis is "The Nile River" and the water problem based on its historical background is considered in the light of critical geopolitics. In this direction, the method of "discourse analysis" is actively used. The efforts of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan to reach a solution by increasing tension and negotiation due to the prominence of the Nile River and the Renaissance (Hedasi) Dam, which has been on the agenda in recent years, constitute another important point of study of the thesis.
