In the critical geopolitical approach Cyprus Peace Operation: Newspaper review (Hürriyet, Milliyet, Cumhuriyet, Milli Gazete)

Cyprus is very valuable to Turkey both geopolitically and strategically. If Cyprus control is in the hands of another state or nation, itcould cause situations that mightput Turkey in difficult conditions. This is the reason Turkey launched an operation on the island on July 20, 1974, ensuring that at least a certain proportion of Cyprus remained under the control of Turkish Cypriots. However, before carrying out this operation, it was necessary to create internal and external justified reasons that willcause the operation, and these reasons should be explained clearly to the public. The government of the period used critical geopolitical methods to convey these justifications to the internal and external public. The study evaluates the discourse and actions of the 37th government during the Cyprus peace operation from a critical geopolitical perspective. The popular structures of the mass media have a serious andimpactful power. The 37th government used this power of influence to create unity in the public opinion. On July 20, 1974, the Turkish public became supporters and advocates of the Cyprus Peace Operation. Thus, the 37th Government received no criticism from the Turkish public in its actions regarding Cyprus. This effort by the 37th Government is a critical geopolitical move. By creating representations and conceptions through media discourse, the first move for rescuing aggrieved Cyprus and the Cypriots, andthe establishment of "young nativeCyprus"was carried out. From January 26, 1974, the day of the establishment of the 37th government toJuly 20, 1974, the day of the operation, news by Hürriyet newspaper, Milliyet newspaper, Cumhuriyet newspaper and Milli newspaper has been examined day by day and thediscourse, representation and conceptionscreated have been traced with critical geopolitical approach.
