Abstract (EN)

Seven of these studies were designed, five of them was obtained from the literature and the information regarding the scope of critical mathematics education activities, active participation in the course and attitudes is investigated. The students' opinions about the activities were also included in the research. In the research where mixed methods were used, the semi-experimental model was preferred among the quantitative methods and the case study model was preferred among the qualitative methods. The study group consists of a total of 35 students, 17 from the experimental group and 18 from the control group. Mathematics General Achievement Test (Akkuş and Akkaş, 2021), Active Participation Scale (Güvenç, 2015) and Mathematics Attitude Scale (Önal, 2013) were used to collect quantitative data. Qualitative data was collected through video recordings of the activities, observation forms, audio recordings of the interviews and student diaries. Mann Whitney-U test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used in the analysis of quantitative data, and content analysis was used in the analysis of qualitative data. Before the applications, it was determined that the experimental and control groups were equal in terms of academic achievement, attitude towards mathematics and active participation in the lesson. Intra- and inter-group comparisons of the experimental and control groups made after the applications showed that the applications had a positive effect on students' academic success and active participation in the lesson, but did not have a significant effect on their attitudes towards mathematics. The qualitative data of the research showed that after the applications, the students developed positive attitudes towards mathematics and their participation in the lesson increased. Students engage in critical mathematics education activities; evaluated it as remarkable, open to interpretation and discussion, close to real life, understandable, developing different perspectives, raising awareness, entertaining and enjoyable. Keywords: Academic achievement, Critical Mathematics Education, Math Attitude, Active Participation, Mixed Method
