Examination of critical illustration examples from a semiological perspective and applications

Critical illustrations are the consequences of a quizzical outlook, and artistic applications making people inquire, which emerge as a work of protest loaded with visual images. It is of great importance that the semiotics should be used comprehensibly, simply and originally so that the messages carried by these artistic works are properly read by the target audience. Therefore, using semiology is an indispensable requirement for both designers and spectators. The first chapter of this study titled "Examination of Critical Illustration Examples from a Semiological Perspective and Applications" attempts to define the concept of illustration with its different aspects and approaches it within the historical development and scrutinizes it in terms of types and techniques in order to be able to see the content and type variety of illustration. The second chapter examines the concept of criticism and approaches the problem of critical illustration in the context of critical art. The function of opposition of criticism has been emphasized. In addition, the historical development of critical illustration in the world and in Turkey has been examined and application types of illustration types, which may be approached under critical illustration, in different techniques and environments have been addressed. The third chapter examines the concept of semiology along with its subheadings, emphasizing visual semiology in particular and viewing the critical illustration examples with semiological approaches. The fourth chapter scrutinizes and presents the application studies conducted based upon the findings obtained within the research process.
