Analyzing the cartoon 'Elif and Frıends' from the perspective of values education

Value education is a process that begins in the family and continues to be shaped by school, social environment, and media. Today, with the effective use of mass communication tools, cartoons are used as an effective method for imparting values to children. Based on this, our study aims to highlight how fundamental values are addressed in the animated series "Elif and Friends" broadcast on TRT Çocuk channel. In our research, we conducted a literature review using qualitative research methods, specifically document analysis. Studies on values education in cartoons were thoroughly examined, and essential readings were conducted from primary sources. Subsequently, themes were identified based on the data collected, and sections of the cartoon referencing values were pinpointed and analyzed in detail to understand how these findings are portrayed in the cartoon. Using a checklist, the data was analyzed using da ta analysis techniques to generate findings. Through our analysis of "Elif and Friends" it was determined that the most emphasized value in the series is respect. Following that, values such as responsibility and honesty were prominently featured. It was also found that patriotism is the least emphasized value. Based on these findings, recommendations were made at the conclusion of the study to contribute to further research related to values education in the cartoon series.
