Abstract (EN)

The issue of major sin is one of the problems that have emerged since the first centuries of Hijra. The wars between Muslims in the events of Jamel and Siffin in the history of Islam caused this problem to arise. Discussions began to emerge about the status of those who committed major sins in terms of faith and what their situation would be in the Hereafter. From a theological point of view, each school dealt with the concept of sin from a different angle, and this brought along many discussions. Some of these sects made those who committed major sins as unbelievers, and some of them referred the result to Allah; some have placed these people in a position between faith and unbelief. According to Ahl as-Sunnah, it is stated that those who commit major sins are believers, however, it is accepted that these people are unbelievers and sinful believers. In addition, when a sinful believer repents, it is possible to be forgiven or punished depending on Allah's will. In this study, we first gave information about the life, works and scientific personality of our author Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır. Then, we explained what the concept of major sin means, the concepts of major and minor sins, and how major sin is understood in theological sects, and we tried to explain how our author approached the concept of major sin.
