Analysis of raw material characteristics of Emirdağ limestone

Abstract (EN)
Characterization of calcitite and dolomite limestone is made on this dissertation study and mineralogical and petrographical characteristics of calcitite and dolomite limestone are identified by physical, chemical, and mechanical tests, and building lime compliance tests are performed on lime samples from calcitite limestone.Calcitite limestone samples are taken from Adacal location, which is located at 4 km northwest of Emirdag (Afyonkarahisar) County; and dolomite limestone samples are taken from Tepekoy (Kuyruklu) location, which is located at 23 km northwest of Emirdag (Afyonkarahisar) County.It is understood after mineralogical and petrographical analysis that primary mineral of calcitite limestone is calcite and they metamorphosed; it is understood after mineralogical and petrographical analysis that primary mineral of dolomite limestone is calcite and dolomite particles are accompanying it and the rock is of sedimentary origin. It is determined after chemical analysis made on calcitite limestone, that CaO percentage is approximately 54,16% and after chemical analysis made on dolomite limestone, that CaO percentage is approximately 31,34% and MgO percentage is approximately 20,81%. These results are verifying mineralogical and petrographical analysis. It is detected after physical and mechanical tests performed on calcitite limestone, that water absorption rate is approximately 0,1785%, apparent density rate is approximately 2,6776 g/cm3, total porosity rate is approximately 1,363%, abrasion loss value by friction is approximately 11,2 cm3/50cm2, uniaxial compressive strength is approximately 61,53 MPa, flexural strength under constant moment value is approximately 11,51 MPa, uniaxial compressive strength after frost is approximately 47,86 MPa, and flexural strength under constant moment after frost is approximately 6,45 MPa. It is detected after physical and mechanical tests performed on dolomite limestone, that water absorption rate is approximately 0,37831%, apparent density rate is approximately 2,7985 g/cm3, total porosity rate is approximately 1,266%, abrasion loss value by friction is approximately 4,4 cm3/50cm2, uniaxial compressive strength is approximately 70,03 MPa, flexural strength under constant moment value is approximately 8,38 MPa, uniaxial compressive strength after frost is approximately 51,48 MPa, and flexural strength under constant moment after frost is approximately 6,08 MPa.Samples taken from calcitite limestone are subjected to calcination in crematorium and lime is acquired. Acquired lime samples are tested in accordance with TS EN 459 ? 2 and TS EN 196 - 2 standards and building lime compliance of test results are interpreted by TS EN 459 ? 1 standard. Accordingly, it is found that activity of slaked lime is approximately 91,81%, activity of unslaked lime is approximately 92,96%, acid insoluble material amount is 1,48%, SO3 rate is 0,216%, R2O3 (Al2O3 and Fe2O3) rate is 0,043%, humidity rate of slaked lime is 0,89%, number of strokes for workability of slaked lime is 13, reactivity of unslaked lime is 52,3 sn, efficiency of unslaked lime is 2,66 dm³/kg, bulk density of slaked lime is 0,48 kg/dm3, CO2 rate of slaked rime is 0,43%, CO2 rate of unslaked rime is 0,4%.As a result of these studies it is seen that calcitite limestone is convenient for lime and cement production, uniaxial compressive strength after frost and flexural strength under constant moment after frost results are at unusable values as a natural stone for paving and coating, and other physical and mechanical characteristics are at usable values as a natural stone for paving and coating. It is determined as for that dolomite limestone is convenient for using as a sinter raw material for glass and blast furnaces, and while its apparent density value is unusable as a natural stone for paving and coating, it is convenient in terms of other physical and mechanical characteristics.Keywords: Lime, Limestone, Dolomite, Glass
