Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to measure the difference in Body Mass Index (BMI), HbA1c levels and lipid profile in patients using Empagliflozin or Dapagliflozin for three months; attending the Family Medicine and Endocrinology outpatient clinics at Başkent University. Material and Methods: Patients attending our outpatient clinics were investigated and data of 473 patients who attended to our clinics between 1st of November 2019 and 31st of October 2020 and prescribed with Empagliflozin or Dapagliflozin were investigated. Off the 473 patients ee included 123 patients using one of SGLT-2 inhibitors, and whose body weight, BMI, waist circumference, glycolised hemoglobin levels, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, blood glucose, uric acid and creatinine levels were measured in every follow-up visit. The parameters listed above and measured at 3-month intervals were compared with each other, evaluated and analyzed. Results: There was a significant difference between the body weight, body mass index, HbA1c, waist circumference, HDL, LDL, triglyceride, uric acid, and fasting blood glucose values at the baseline and follow-up visits of the patients (p<0.001). While HDL levels of the patients increased in the follow-up visit, we observed that all other values decreased significantly (p<0.001). Discussion: We found that SGLT-2 inhibitors provide clinically significant and effective glycemic control and decrease BMI and body weight. In addition, we found that it contributed to improve the lipid profile of the patient. These results showed that SGLT-2 inhibitors can be used easily in diabetic patients with risk factors for cardiac diseases, and they are agents that can be preferred in terms of weight loss in obese or overweight patients. Key Words: SGLT2 inhibitors, Glysemic Control, Antihyperlipidemic Effect, Body Mass Index
