Abstract (EN)
EN 1317 standards include the design and acceptance criteria of guardrail systems within the scope of roadside safety. One of the most frequently used safety parameters to determine the impact severity level, which is one of the three main categories evaluated in guardrail classification, is the Acceleration Severity Index (ASI). In order to determine the ASI value in the EN 1317 standard, the barriers must be subjected to the TB11 full-scale crash test. In ASI calculation with TB11 crash test, only 900 kg weight criterion is defined in the relevant standards for small passenger car type vehicles. In this study, the adequacy of the vehicle criteria determined for the EN 1317 standard TB11 test was investigated using the finite element software LS-DYNA. In addition, the effects on ASI value of criteria such as chassis and body type, vehicle length, width, height depending on the vehicle type are also aimed within the scope of the thesis, with finite element analyzes using different vehicles. Firstly, TB11 finite element analysis was performed for Fiat Uno brand vehicle by using H1W2-A steel barrier system. Finite element calibration and validation were successfully performed by comparing the analysis results with the full-scale crash test data. The validated crash test scenario was applied for 4 different vehicles (Fiat Uno, Toyota Yaris, Dodge Neon, Honda Accord) and the results were compared. According to the test results, the ASI value of Fiat Uno, which is the most unsafe option, is 31% higher than the safest option Honda Accord. It has been observed that the dimensional quantities (length, width, height) of Honda Accord are higher than Fiat Uno and ASI values decrease as the total dimensions of the vehicles increase. It has been observed that the Fiat Uno brand vehicle, which has a 2-door Hatchback chassis and body type, is more unfavorable than the other three 4-door Sedan type vehicles in the ASI calculation. It is thought that the ASI calculation criteria of the EN 1317 standard should be revised considering the results obtained in the study.
