Abstract (EN)
Iridaceae is a cosmopolitan family included 92 genus an 6 of them are spreading in our country. Fourty six Iris species including 16 endemic grow in Turkey. Its rhizom is used in traditional medicine. In literature, there is no research about bioactive ingredients of Iris junonia. In this study, n-hexane, dicloromethane, methanol and water exraction from several parts of I junonia were prepared and their biological activities included antioxidant, antibacterial and DNA protection were studied. To determine antioxidant activity, Rel Assay Diagnostics Kit (TAS, TOS) and DPPH assays, to antibacterial activity, microdilution assay by using 9 different bacteria strains accordingto CSL and to DNA protection activity, pBR322 plasmid DNA assay were used. In result, especially water and methanolş extracts showed higher antioxidant activities in both asssay. The highest antioxidant and antibacterial activities were shown to have in root water extract. The most DNA protection was shown to have in the water and methanol extracts ofleaf and flower. In conclusion, it was determined tahat the endemic plant species I. junonia has active metabolites related with antioxidant, antibacterial and DNA protection activities.
