Diagnostic value of needle aspiration biopsies from lung or mediastinal lesions with endobronchial ultrasonography

Abstract (EN)
EBUS mediastinal lymph nodes or masses by providing sufficient material granulomatous disease, the masses, malign / bening differentiation, high rate of diagnosis, the rate of complications is extremely low and the cost of other invasive methods compared to other methods is an inexpensive interventional diagnostic method. Tumors or other lung diseases are not always present in the airways, and in the bronchies. Lymphocytes are often the first precursors of lung-derived diseases. EBUS can scan lymph nodes, biopsy suspicious lymph nodes and help in the diagnosis of cancer, staging of cancer. EBUS method; It is a highly advanced diagnostic method that can save the person from further surgical intervention. Material Methods 261 patients who presented to Dicle University Chest Diseases Clinic between January 2016 and January 2018 were treated with EBUS and transbronchial needle aspiration. For all patients, convex probe EBUS and 22 G needles were used. The radiology reports, PET / CT reports, EBUS notes, pathology results of these patients were retrospectively analyzed. Statistically evaluated. Information about the indication of EBUS, technical characteristics of the procedure, lymph node applied to TBNA or localization of mass were obtained from the file information. The diagnosis, treatment and clinical follow-up of patients with EBUS were evaluated. Results 261 of the patients undergoing EBUS-guided needle aspiration biopsy, 170 (65.1%) were male; 91 (34.9%) were women. Patients in the study were between 18 and 92 years of age. The mean age of the patients was 59.8 years. We examined the cytopathological results of the patients. 26 nondiagnostics, 12 normal tissues, 45 non-specific inflammation, 28 granulomatous inlamation, 52 anthracosis, 98 were reported by pathology as malignancy. The diagnosis was achieved in 154 (90.0%) of the 170 male patients who underwent EBUS and in 81 (89.0%) of the 91 female patients. Convex probe EBUS with 2R, 2L, 4R, 4L, 7, 10R, 10L, 11 no. A total of 261 patients were aspirated from 443 different stations. The total number of aspirates taken from 261 patients was 980. Conclusion EBUS is a minimally invasive diagnostic method and biopsy from mediastinal lymph nodes is helpful in the diagnosis of pulmonary mediastinal diseases. It was found to be successful in diagnosing malignant diseases, as well as in the diagnosis of benign diseases such as sarcoidosis, tuberculosis and anthracosis. A significant proportion of patients were reported to be bening by pathology.
