Assesment of endodontic treatment administering dentists' views on their professional experience, complications and malpractise: a survey study

Physicians have ethical and legal responsibilities. These responsibilities are reflected in their patients and their treatment. Unwanted results may occur during treatment, also the patient may complain about the fact that he or she is hurt. In legal liability, there are mistakes in medical practice. There are more than one factors such as less of caution in treatment, equipment errors, lack of experience. Errors in treatment can result in criminal sanctions. The aim of this study is to investigate the level of knowledge of dentists about legal liability, and to obtain the causes and outcomes of complications and malpractice cases. Thirty-six questions related to professional experience, treatments, malpractice and complication concepts, case examples, legal awareness were prepared on the microsoft forms platform and first organized with a pilot study of 10 people. Then, it was completed by 280 participants in total, by dentists who were practitioners, assistants, and faculty members who performed at least 3 endodontic treatments per week. The statistical significance level was analyzed as p=0.05 and the Chi-square test and the SPSS statistical package program were used. It has been concluded that dentists are conscious about complications, malpractice concepts and cases. However, it was concluded that there was not enough training on legal responsibility and the information about the legal process in case of any complaint was not sufficient.
