A comparative analysis of dentin binding rates of different perforation repair materials used in endodontic treatment

Abstract (EN)

Repair materials used during the repair of perforation areas during endodontic treatment are of great importance for the success of the treatment, as well as the biocompatibility of the dental tissue and its connection to the tooth tissue. The aim of this study is to investigate the binding rates of calcium silicate-containing repair materials to the tooth tissue in acidic and neutral pH environments according to the traditionally used MTA material and to evaluate the bioactivity properties of the materials. In the study, 192 pieces of 2 ± 0.2mm thickness dentin sections taken from the root middle triple section of the single rooted human teeth were shaped to have a diameter of 1.3mm in the cross-section of the sections. MTA, ERRM, Biodentine and BioMTA materials were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions and placed in the gaps in the section. 4 subgroups were created for each material. The materials are respectively; 4 days phosphate buffered saline, 4 days pH 4.5 acetic acid solution, 34 days phosphate buffered saline and 4 days pH 4.5 acetic acid solution + 30 days phosphate buffered saline solutions were kept and the bond strength of the dentin tissue in the push-out test setup was measured. The materials were examined by scanning electron microscope and characterization of the precipitate structure that could occur at the material-dentin interface was investigated by using EDX analysis. The ERRM material showed the highest binding rate in all groups. MTA and BioMTA materials showed high solubility and low binding rates in acidic medium. 4 days pH 4.5 acetic acid solution + 30 days phosphate buffered saline group was observed to decrease the binding rate of all materials. While ERRM and Biodentine materials showed high binding resistance and bioactivity, MTA and BioMTA materials showed high solubility and low bond strength. Accordingly, it can be said that ERRM and Biodentine materials can be used as an alternative to traditional MTA in terms of ease of use and application with effective bioactivity.
