SummaryEndophthalmitis is a intraocular inflamation which develop due to infectios or non-infectios couses and mostly hold vitreus cavity and anterior chamber. n the last years,medical and surgery strategies showed an improvement however endophthalmitis is still veryscary clinical complication for a ophthalmologist. n this study we aimed to evaluate effect ofrecent medical and vitreoretinal surgery treatment strategier on to anatomic and visualprognose effect.Material and Method: 16 eyes of 16 patients with endophthalmitis who werediagnosed in the Dicle University, Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology betweenSeptember 2004 and september 2006 . Culture samples were taken for microbiological studyafter diagnosis. Patients were treated with intravitreal antibiotic and vitreoretinal surgery.Patients were followed up after operation for 1 to 6 months.Findings: Posttraumatic endophthalmitis (9 patients 56.25 %), postoperativeendophthalmitis (6 patients 37.5 %) and endogen endophthalmitis (1 patient 6.25 %) weredetected in study. 4 of 16 patients vitreus culture samples were (+) positive. 12 patientsvitreus culture samples were (-) negative. Visual acuity after treatment: Visual acuity increasein 7 patients (46.66 %), visual acuity decrease in 3 patients (20 %), nochanges visual acuity in3 patients (20 %) and any sign of visual acuity in 2 patients ( 13.33 %) were recorded.Result: Early diagnosis and therapy is very important in endophthalmitis. Goodrecovery result can be obtained by rapid and accurate treatment. ntravitreal antibiotic andpars plana vitrectomy combinations treatment approach which in use in last years is the bestapproach to get succesful results.
