Özet (EN)
Objectives: To determine; age, gender, diabetes types and medications, prevalence of concomitant diseases and diabetes complications, level of the glicemic control and efficiency of treatment modalities of diabetic patients who followed up in our Diabetes Clinic. We also aimed to constitute demographic data relating to our region for DM. By using these data, we planned to reorganize and determine patients education, follow up and treatment modalities.Material and Methods:Medical records from 400 patients who were treated for diabetes at the İnönü University Diabetes Clinics of Turgut Özal Medical Center from January 2007 through Septenber 2008 were retrospectivly analysed. Data were obtained from Medical Faculty Automation System (Corttex) and Diabetes Form for Hospitalized Patients.Results:1- The majority of patients were Type 2 diabetes (89 %), 54.5% of the patients were female and 45.5 % were male. 61.3 % of the patients had primary school education or lesser. More than half of the patients (51%) were housewife.2- There was a significant relationship between complications and duration of diabetes.3- 50.8 % of the patients received oral antidiabetic treatment and 39.6 % insulin. More than half of the patients who received insülin using it twice daily.4- Both of BMI and weight were higher in Type 2 diabetes with respect to Type 1 diabetes. Mean BMI was 29.3 kg/m2 in Type 2 diabetes and mean weight was 78.7 kg.5- Both of systolic and diastolic pressure were higher in Type 2 diabetes with regard to Type 1 diabetes. The mean systolic pressure was 129.7 mmHg in Type 2 diabetes and mean diastolic pressure was 81.7 mmHg.Conclusions: Diabetes mellitus is a common, chronic lifelong disease. Early diagnosis and treatment is very important. The main purpose in diabetes is to increase the patient?s life quality, to prevent and delay the development of complications. In order to justify this aim, the medical team; doctor, nurse, dietician and if neccessary the physiotherapist and psycotherapist must contribute to the therapy. And besides the developed novel drugs and technologic improvment, identifying target population, determining its clinic and demographic characteristics, and reorganisation of education programmes and treatment approachs according to these databases are required to succed.
