Factors affecting the formation of endometrial polyp

Aim: Endometrial polyps are common in the general population and It mostly presents with abnormal uterine bleeding. In this study, it was aimed to examine the risk factors affecting the formation of endometrial polyps. The relationship between endometrial polyp and age, year of menopause, gravida, parity, number of normal births, number of cesarean sections, number of abortions, comorbidities, and previous uterine surgery was investigated. Material and Methods: This study is a case-control retrospective study. It was conducted on 316 patients who applied to Ankara City Hospital between 2019-2020. Of these patients, 158 are the case group diagnosed with endomerial polyps and 158 are the control group. The patients in the case group consisted of patients who underwent probe curettage for any reason and had endometrial polyps as a result of pathology. The control group consists of randomized patients who applied to the outpatient clinic, who are asymptomatic in terms of endometrial pathologies and no pathology is observed in the ultrasound image. These two groups were compared statistically with SPSS version 20.0 and Chi-square test. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: When the two groups were compared statistically, the p values ​​were; Age (p<0.001), year of menopause (p=0.006), gravida (p<0.001), parity (p<0.001), number of normal births (p<0.001), number of abortions (p=0.014), number of previous uterine surgeries (p=0.008), number of cesarean sections (p=0.211), diabetes mellitus (p<0.001), hypertension (p<0.001), hypothyroidism (p=0.033), breast ca (p=0.448) were found. Conclusion: A significant correlation was found between age, menopause year, gravida, parity, number of normal births, number of abortions, increase in the number of previous uterine surgeries, and between diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypothyroidism and endometrial polyps.
