The development of hadith methodology in Andalusia

After being captured by the Muslims, Andalusia holds an significant place in the formation of the science of hadith, as it was a region where numerous scholars of hadith emerged and a considerable amount of works on the science of hadith were produced. The scholarly environment that emerged in Andalusia provided the opportunity for the writing of numerous works on various aspects and topics of hadith, thereby obtaining a critical position in the expansion of hadith literature. It is observed that the works on hadith methodology within this literature have also made a substantial contribution to this rich body of work. This study focuses on the issue of the hadith methodology in the region of Andalusia. Firstly, information is provided about the historical background that paved the way for the formation of the literature on the hadith methodology in Andalusia, by discussing the transmission of al-Muwatta and the hadith works written in the East to the region, and thus examining the process of Andalusia's acquaintance with the science of hadith. Then, reference is made to various sources related to hadith that contributed to the formation of the hadith methodology in the region. Following these informative sections, works directly related to the hadith methodology written by Andalusian scholars or containing issues related to the hadith methodology in their content are identified, and important points regarding their authors and contents are discussed. The works are then chronologically analyzed to thoroughly examine how the concepts and topics of the hadith methodology mentioned in these works were evaluated by their authors. The aim is to present the development history of the hadith methodology in Andalusia and its manifestations in the literature. Subsequently, based on the data obtained, the works on the hadith methodology in Andalusia and the East are subjected to a mutual evaluation, addressing the contexts in which they influenced each other and the issues on which they differed. Taking into account the differences in schools of thought among the authors of works on the hadith methodology in these regions, their views on the classification of hadiths as mutawatir or ahad, as well as their opinions on the transmission and meaning of hadiths, are examined independently, and their points of divergence are indicated.
