Abstract (EN)

Art has constantly evolved in parallel with the development of society throughout human history. In each era, it has utilized unique mass communication tools and technologies, contributing to the transformation of art and shaping new dynamics. This thesis examines the impact of the transformation in mass communication tools on art, artists, audiences, and the structure of society, from the Industrial Age to the present information age, while exploring the resulting cultural differences. Comprising an introduction, conclusion, and three main sections, the second section of this study provides an analysis of popular culture, the culture industry, and mass culture to establish a foundation for cultural understanding. The third section delves into how traditional mass communication tools invented in the Industrial Age have detached art from its previous context and how they have enabled its reproduction through technological means. It also investigates changes in society's perspective towards art and culture, drawing on insights from thinkers and communication theorists within a sociological context. In the fourth section, the study identifies how the internet, as a mass communication tool in the information age, has virtualized art with the advent of new media technologies. Additionally, this section examines specific artists' works in light of the theories mentioned in the previous sections, raising issues concerning art's transition from industrial production to digital production, as well as challenges related to the authenticity and originality of art pieces. In the conclusion, the findings are summarized, and the effects of mass communication tools on art and society are discussed. The thesis emphasizes its contributions and limitations, and offers suggestions for further research. By comprehensively examining the ongoing evolution of art throughout history and the impact of mass communication tools on art, this thesis aims to help readers understand significant transformations in the realms of art and communication.
