Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the removal of three different synthetic dye mixtures, Erionyl Red (ER), Isolan Bordeaux (IB) and Remazol Red (RR), from water using electrocoagulation (EK) method is described. The parameters required for removal have been individually optimized. While dyestuffs can be toxic themselves, they can also create toxic species in water. Colored wastes create colloidal structures in the water and give bad appearance as well as bad odor. The colloidal structure will stop the photosynthesis of the green life in the water, as it will prevent the sun rays from entering the interior of the water. At the same time, mixing of these waters with drinking water will adversely affect human life. Four different parameters including dye concentration, salt concentration, current density and pH were investigated in order to find optimum removal efficiency and energy consumption conditions by using iron electrodes. A chemometric method has been developed to determine the removal amount of three different commercial dyes in water. The removal efficiency of the experiments was calculated by applying the classical least squares method (CLS). The EK technique has shown good removal efficiency in removing single and mixed dyes from water. All optimization experiments were carried out using a dye concentration of 100 mg/L and the current density for the three dyes and mixtures was calculated to be 2.33 mA/cm2 and the energy consumption to be around 1.25 kWh/m3.
