Abstract (EN)
In Turkey, the concept of "Industrial Heritage" has become increasingly important for the last 20 years, and transformation projects are being prepared for the integration of idle industrial areas into the urban landscape. This study is aimed at documenting the current architectural conditions of the Izmit Broadcloth Factory, which was established by the state in Izmit in 1844 and entered the process of natural extinction due to earthquakes, bombings, vandalism and faulty interventions over time, and attempts to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and PROMETHEE. It aims to bring new function suggestions to the buildings by applying the II method. In line with these purposes, in the study consisting of eight chapters; First of all, the concepts of industrial heritage and industrial archeology are examined and institutions working on industrial heritage are introduced. The geographical features of the study area are examined in terms of its historical development and heritage values, and similar structures on the list are evaluated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. The current architectural conditions of the Izmit Broadcloth Factory structures (Bedesten, Weaving Workshop, Chimney Warehouse, Dehliz, Hydroelectric Power Plant, Water Tank, Hunting Lodge and registered trees), which are registered as cultural assets to be protected by the Istanbul II numbered KTVK, are conveyed by using the archive data of Kartepe Municipality. Seven sample industrial heritages from Turkey and the world, which have been transformed, have been selected and the transition from the first establishment to the extinction phase of the mentioned areas and the functions they have assumed after are defined. Finally, the weights of the criteria determined within the scope of the study were determined by using AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process), which is one of the multivariate decision making methods, and the complete ranking of the structures according to the criteria was made with the PROMETHEE II method. The functions of the buildings (Socio-Cultural Center, Concert Hall/Art Gallery, Exhibition Hall, Library, Office Building, Museum) were defined within the scope of their transformation into a Museum and Art Center, and it was concluded that the Bedesten structure is the most suitable structure for potential functions.
