Abstract (EN)

This thesis investigates the impacts of power infrastructure quality on manufacturing performance in OECD countries over the period from 1995 to 2014. Panel Autoregressive Distributive Lag Approach (ARDL) is employed on annual data of the manufacturing production and value-added as proxy variables for manufacturing performance and electricity power transmission & distribution losses as a proxy for power infrastructure quality. Since the analysis denotes the existence of cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity across panels, second-generation estimators, namely the Common Correlated Effects Mean Group (CCEMG) and the Augmented Mean Group (AMG), are used to estimate the causal relations. The results indicate that the transmission and distribution losses negatively affect both manufacturing production and value-added. According to the results, while the effect of transmission and distribution losses on manufacturing production is highly significant, that of on value-added is only slightly significant. The negative effect of power infrastructure quality on manufacturing performance remains consistent even when several control variables are included in the estimations.
