From an energy geography perspective: Bursa city geothermal energy potential and use

Abstract (EN)

Energy is found in nature in forms such as heat, light, electricity, chemical and nuclear and is classified among itself. Energy sources are classified in 2 ways. The first of these is the types of energy according to their use, and the other is the types of convertible energy. According to its use, energy types are divided into renewable and non-renewable. According to its convertibility, it is divided into primary and secondary class energy types. We can define geothermal energy, one of the renewable energy sources, as the accumulation of heat from the depths of the earth's crust and the use of hot water, gases and steam containing various chemicals formed by this heat. Geothermal energy can be clearly distinguished by being low cost, clean, safe and suitable for nature. When we consider it as an environmental risk dimension, it is highly preferable because it is a cleaner, inexhaustible energy source compared to other energy sources. Turkey is considered as a country rich in geothermal energy potential due to its current geographical location and geological infrastructure, as it is a country where tectonism activity is active. In our country, the use of geothermal energy manifests itself in various areas such as heat (heating of greenhouses and houses), electricity generation, thermal hotels and health treatment (hot springs), etc. The fact that the North Anatolian Fault Line, one of the fault lines in our country, passes through the south and southeast of the Marmara Region, enables Bursa to gain a geothermal identity. According to the "Bursa Province Mineral and Energy Resources" report created as a result of the investigations made by MTA; In Bursa, geothermal potential has been collected in Çekirge-Kaynarca, Orhangazi-Keramet, İnegöl-Oylat and Karacakaya, Mustafakemalpaşa-Tumbüldek, Gemlik-Terme, Harmancık-Ilıcaksu, Orhaneli-Sadağı, Ağaçhisar regions. In this master's thesis study, the subject is limited to the province of Bursa in terms of area, and the availability of geothermal energy in the province has been discussed, the areas in which this energy asset is used have been investigated, and the deficiencies of the province in terms of general usage areas of geothermal energy have been questioned. The deficiencies of the studies in the region have been identified and suggestions have been made to eliminate these deficiencies. In the study, by using the observation method, a literature review was made on the subject in the region and the data obtained in this direction were analyzed.
