Özet (EN)

Tooth erosion is a multifactorial condition and has a complex etiology. Every factor plays a role in the formation or prevention of erosion. Over time, the interaction of all these factors can lead to the advancement or actually preservation of the surface. The most important exogenous source of acid exposure is diet, which can contain many ingredients and products of complex composition and potential for erosive damage. Apart from diet, the occupation and sports performed by the patient can also cause erosive wear. Workers in the chemical industry or professional wine tasters have a higher risk of erosion due to increased acid-tooth contact. It is important to identify the type of dental erosion lesion in order to recognize the contributing etiological factors and ultimately identify other more complex, non-dental related disorders (such as gastroesophageal reflux, eating disorders). It is clear that each lesion type has a unique morphology and mechanism, and further clinical studies are needed to clarify the etiological processes, particularly those underlying the onset of abfraction.
