Labour in the informal sector and paid companionship in palliative care centres

Neoliberal policies are highly decisive not only in terms of their economic outputs but also in terms of transformations in all areas of life and, of course, in the provision of health services. First of all, the transformation of the form of employment due to privatisation, marketisation and liberalisation has also informalised working life. Rapidly increasing middle classisation and social ageing have led to an increase in the need for care. At this point, the realisation of the institutional organisation for care within the framework of neoliberal policies has produced an area that needs to be discussed between the form of employment, the patient, the patient's relatives and the provision of the service. While the process has rapidly increased the number of palliative care centres, care labour has been transformed. This study focuses on palliative care and how the transformation of unpaid care labour within the family has led to the emergence of a foreign labour force, the paid companion. In the study, the method of obtaining a job, the process of service production, working conditions, working environment and work experiences of paid labour in the informal sector are questioned through the social reflections of neoliberal policies.
