Abstract (EN)

In parallel to rapidly growing population, rising living standards and technological developments, the amount and types of solid waste generated is increased. As a natural result of this event, natural resources will become unusable. In order to minimize environmental damage caused by solid waste, various disposal methods have been developed depending on the amount and characteristics of solid waste. In this study, two different characterizations of solid waste, as winter and summer months, occurred in residential areas in Edremit Bay in 2012, and the solid wastes generated were evaluated in terms of the various disposal methods. For this purpose, firstly general information was introduced about the Edremit Bay's current solid waste management and disposal methods, and then solid waste characterization was demonstrated for proposed integrated solid waste management system for Edremit, depending on the solid waste projections and the region's future population. In the light of the information obtained, the most appropriate solid waste transportation, collection systems and the most accurate components of integrated solid waste management system were proposed for Edremit Bay.
