Environmental factors affecting on some fertility parameters and the economic losses in Afyonkarahisar dairy enterprises

In this study, it was aimed to determine the fertility characteristics, environmental factors affecting them and economic losses caused by deviations from the ideal fertility parameters in 126 Holstein and Simental cows reared in three dairy farms. The first calving age was 872.2 and 949.2 days in Holsteins and Simmentals. Least squares means showed that the services per conception were 1.74 and 1.47 in Holsteins and Simmentals. As a result of analysis of variance, the effect of year on the number of services per conception was found to be significant (p <0.05). Calving interval was determined as 430,7 and 404,6 days in Holsteins and Simmentals. The economic losses caused by deviations from the ideal level in terms of calving age, number of services per conception and calving interval were calculated as calf losses (head) and their total values were 228392.0, 6075.0 and 67849,98 Turkish liras respectively. As a result, it was revealed that some fertility parameters of Holstein and Simental cattle raised in three plants in Afyonkarahisar were affected by some environmental factors. In addition, the economic losses caused by deviations from the ideal level of some reproductive trait in terms of calf losses are overlooked and not taken into consideration by farm operations. At the end of this study, the need to make an economic analysis of each enterprise is presented. Key Words: Holstein, Simmental, Calving Interval, Service per conception, Economic Analyses
