Allelopathy is a process where compounds secreted from plant organs interact and affect plant growth and development. In recent years, the discovery of compounds with allelopathic properties and the investigation of their potential to be used as bioherbicides have gained importance. Thus, it is aimed to develop products that are effective in weed control but do not harm the environment, such as synthetic herbicides. The aim of this study is to determine the allelopathic and possible genotoxic effects of acetone extract of Platismatia glauca (L.) lichen on some plant species. In order to determine the allelopathic effects, acetone extract of the lichen was applied to the seeds of the common weed species in the fields such as Portulaca oleracea (Purslane), Amaranthus retroflexus (Redroot Pigweed), Setaria verticillata (Bristly Foxtail.) and cultivated species Oryza sativa (Asian Rice). Molecular marker methods ISSR and RAPD-PCR were used to determine genotoxic effects. As a result, it was revealed that lichen acetone extract had allelopathic and genotoxic effects on weeds and cultivated plant seed germination depending on the concentration. It has been determined that the potential of Platismatia glauca acetone extract to be used as a bioherbicide varies according to the weed species.
