Abstract (EN)
The use of addictive, virtuous goods creates many negative externalities on individuals and public health. Tobacco, alcohol and substance use is increasing and the fact that people who use these products have a higher risk of disease than those who do not, also reduces social peace and the number of healthy individuals. Public expenditures in the fight against drugs in Turkey are increasing every year. Public expenditures in 2023 increased by approximately 62.5% compared to 2022. Within the scope of 2023 training activities, 25,758 events were held and a total of 1,706,736 people were reached. In 2022, the number of activities for citizens increased and 638,081 people were reached. The number of activities for tradesmen was 324 and the number of people reached was 5,440. Customs Personnel and Coast Guard personnel were included in the target group in 2023. It is seen that civil society organizations will carry out more activities in 2023 compared to the previous year and the number of people reached will increase, and it is seen that diversification of target groups will be effective. In line with the 2018-2023 National Strategy Document and Action Plan for the Fight Against Drugs, the Ministry of National Education is tasked with carrying out education and information measures to reduce substance use. Education and awareness campaigns aim to create awareness in society and to raise awareness in individuals about the fight against addiction. The purpose of this study is to emphasize that education and information about the harms, effects and prevention of addiction in the fight against addiction in Turkey are important and should be increased.
