Religious and sufi contect in Ereğlili Hüzni Divan

Hüznî of Ereğlili is one of the important poets of the last period of Ottoman literature and his Divan deals with religious and mystical themes in a unique poetic language. In a world shaped by the socio-cultural changes of his time, Hüznî blended Islamic teachings and Sufi thought in his poetry. This study aims to analyse the religious and mystical concepts in Hüznî's Divan. In the first part of the thesis, Hüznî's life, scientific and literary identity, the themes and content of the Divan, and studies on Hüznî are discussed. Hüznî's religious education and his relationship with Sufism are among the important factors shaping his understanding of poetry. In the second part, the religious elements in the Divan are analysed within the framework of "Principles of Belief" and other religious concepts are also included. In Hüznî's poems, basic belief doctrines such as belief in Allah, prophets, angels, books, the hereafter and accident and destiny are reflected with a deep ecstasy and literary aesthetics. In the third section, Sufi themes are discussed in depth. Concepts such as wahdat al-wujûd, fenâfillah, bekâbillah, divine love and seyr-i sülûk are among the subjects frequently mentioned in Hüznî's poems. These concepts show the poet's spiritual journey and how he experiences divine love in the human soul. It has been observed that Hüznî was influenced by great Sufis such as Mevlânâ, Abdülkâdir Geylânî, Şeyh Şâban-ı Veli, and Yunus Emre, but developed a unique Sufi discourse. The thesis also analyses how Hüznî uses religious and Sufi symbols (such as rose, nightingale, heart, mey) to convey deep messages. These symbols function as the poet's means of making sense of divine love and man's relationship with God.
