Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was to examine whether Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and nomophobia play a conditional mediating role in the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination among adolescent athletes. Materials and Methods: This study employed a correlational survey design, one of the quantitative research methods. The study sample consisted of 413 licensed adolescent athletes enrolled in different types of high schools in Türkiye. Data were collected using the Brief SelfControl Scale, the Fear of Missing Out Scale, the Nomophobia Questionnaire, and the Academic Procrastination Scale Results: The findings revealed a significant negative relationship between self-control and academic procrastination. As self-control increased, academic procrastination decreased. Furthermore, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) was found to partially mediate the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination. Individuals with higher levels of selfcontrol reported lower levels of FoMO, which in turn was associated with lower levels of academic procrastination. Conclusion: The findings suggest that academic procrastination among adolescent athletes cannot be explained solely by a lack of self-control but is also influenced by important psychological factors of the digital age, such as Fear of Missing Out and nomophobia. Based on these findings, strengthening self-control skills and promoting conscious technology use may contribute significantly to supporting the academic development of adolescent athletes.
