Investigation of the medium role of psychological strength in the relationship between adolescents (12-18 years old) and psychological symptoms

The main goal of this study is to examine the mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between attachment styles and psychological symptoms in adolescents. The research was designed within the framework of the relational screening model and its sample consists of 403 participants residing in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul. These participants were selected using the cluster sampling method. Among the data collection tools of the research; demographic information form, Parent and Peer Attachment Inventory, Brief Symptom Inventory and Child and Youth Psychological Resilience Scale.This analysis was carried out using the SPSS v23 statistical program. According to the results obtained, it was determined that there was a significant correlation between attachment styles and psychological symptoms. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used in the main analysis of the research. Confidence intervals were obtained using the bootstrap method specifically for mediation analyses. Analyzes were carried out using the AMOS program.According to the results obtained, it was determined that psychological resilience played a mediating role in the effect of parent-peer attachment level on psychological symptoms, increasing the negative effect by 169%. In this context, psychological resilience plays an important role in preventing psychological symptoms by supporting parent-peer attachment. These analyzes support the main hypotheses of the study and contribute to our understanding of the complex relationships between attachment styles, resilience, and psychological symptoms in adolescents.
