Exami̇ng the relati̇onshi̇p between i̇nternet addi̇cti̇on and soci̇al appearance anxi̇ety of adolescence i̇n terms of di̇fferent vari̇ables (i̇stanbul Yeni̇bosna Multi-Program Anatoli̇an Hi̇gh School example)

Internet is the fastest and easiest means of communication and access to information in 21. century. Internet usage is continuously increasing every day. People are paying their bills, accessing to information, having fun and shopping via the Internet. Internet usage is also widespread among adolescents. The number of adolescents, who say that they are more comfortable while expressing themselves through the internet, is considerably high. Especially, the adolescents who think that they are insufficient to establish a desired image regarding their physical appearance in their social environment are spending much more time on internet. Beside of the fact that the internet provides convenience, excessive and uncontrolled use of the internet has revealed the concept of internet addiction. In this thesis, the relationship between social appearance anxiety of adolescents and internet addiction has been examined according to various variables. In the first part of the thesis, a theoretical framework has been demonstrated by providing general information about adolescence, body image, social appearance anxiety and the internet addiction. In the second part, there are surveys, which are conducted to adolescents in high school about the effects of the social appearance anxiety on the internet addiction, with their analysis and findings.
