The relationship between school climate, adolescent-parent relationships, and social and emotional learning and school engagement in adolescents: A model test

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between school climate, adolescent-parent relationships and social and emotional learning with school engagement in adolescents. For this purpose, the hypothetical model created with school climate, adolescent-parent relationships, social and emotional learning and school engagement was tested. Since the research aims to determine the existence of change between two or more variables, it is a correlational study for prediction. The study group consisted of 663 high school students determined by random assignment method among the students studying in high schools in the center of Erzincan province in the 2022-2023 academic year. The data were obtained through Personal Information Form, Adolescent Parental Relationship Scale, School Climate Scale High School Form, Adolescent Social and Emotional Learning Scale, and School Engagement Scale, and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data. According to the results obtained from the study; social and emotional learning and school climate directly predict school engagement in high school students. Adolescent-parent relationships predict school engagement through social and emotional learning. School climate predicts school engagement through social and emotional learning. In addition, the model developed within the scope of the research explains approximately 69% of the total variance related to school engagement.
