The meditorial role of cognitive flexibility and inferiority feeling in the relationship between resilience and negative life events in adolescents

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between resilience and negative life events in high school students and to reveal the mediating roles of cognitive flexibility and inferiority feeling in this relationship. The study group of the research consists of 942 high school students (552 female, 371 male) studying at high schools in Meram district of Konya province in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data collection tools used in the research are "Resilience Attitude and Skill Scale", "Adverse Life Events List", "Cognitive Flexibility Inventory", "Adolescent Inferiority Feeling Scale" and "Personal Information Form". The analysis of the collected data was made with the SPSS 26 program. Independent sample t-test, correlation analysis and mediation test were used to test the research questions. Model 4, Process Macro, was used to analyze the mediation effects in the resilience model of high school students. According to the results of the study, it was seen that there was no significant difference in the resilience levels of high school students according to gender. In the study, a negative correlation was found between resilience and negative life events, a positive relationship between cognitive flexibility and a negative relationship between inferiority feeling. It was determined that the direct effect of negative life events on the inferiority feeling was significant in the positive direction, and the direct effect on the cognitive flexibility was significant in the negative direction. According to the mediation test results, it was seen that the effect of negative life events on resilience through cognitive flexibility was significant, while the effect of negative life events on resilience through inferiority feeling was not significant.
