Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to examine the relationships of siblings of individuals in adolescence, young adulthood and middle adulthood, and to investigate their sibling relationships in depth. In this research, mixed method (mixed method) was used by using both qualitative and quantitative models. The pattern of the research is 'Asynchronous Mixed Model'. In order to collect data in the quantitative dimension of the research, "Sibling Relations Scale", "Subjective Well-Being Scale", "Adolescent Subjective Well-being Scale", "UCLA Loneliness Scale", " Close Relationships Inventory and" Short Form of Attachment to Parents and Friends " used. Within the scope of the qualitative dimension of the research, interviews were conducted to examine the sibling relationships in more depth and to gather information about the results. The universe of the research is adolescents who attend secondary school and high school living in Malatya, young adults attending university and parents who are parents of students attending secondary school, high school and university. Simple random sampling method to collect quantitative data and purposeful sampling method to collect qualitative data. For the data obtained from the quantitative dimension of the study, t-Test (Independent Samples t-Test) for Unrelated Samples and Single Factor Variance Analysis (One-Way ANOVA) and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis for Unrelated Samples were used. Content analysis was performed on the data obtained from the interviews for the qualitative dimension. As a result of the analyzes, sibling relationships for adolescents; does not differ according to gender, the education level of the father, number of siblings and sibling felt close. Sibling relationships for adolescents; age varies according to the educational status of the mother, birth order, sibling, living with the sibling evaluated, and age difference. Sibling relationships for young adults; The educational status of the mother and father does not differ according to the order of birth and living with the sibling. Sibling relationships for young adults differ according to gender, age, number of siblings, sibling felt and sibling evaluated. For middle adults, sibling relationships do not differ according to gender, age, their own learning status, number of siblings, birth order, sibling assessed, sibling felt close, age difference, survival of the mother and father, living in the same city with the sibling and meeting with the sibling. In middle adulthood, sibling relationships differ according to the frequency of telephone conversation with the sibling. Sibling relationships to connect with friends during adolescence; avoiding attachment in young adulthood; In middle adulthood, avoided attachment and anxious attachment are a significant predictor of attachment. In young adulthood, sibling relationships are not a predictor of anxious attachment. Sibling relations are a significant predictor of loneliness in adolescence, young adulthood and middle adulthood. Finally, while sibling relationships are a significant predictor of subjective well-being during adolescence, younger relationships are not a predictor of subjective well-being during mid-adulthood. According to the quantitative findings, the strongest predictors of attachment are positive affiliation, jealousy, and the mother's diverging attitude, respectively. The qualities of the other sibling relationship are not a significant predictor. As a result of interviews with adolescents; my mother is confused, never ending quarrels, fortunately there are, I have accepted everything and jealousy themes have been reached. In the responses related to attachment, the participants generally talked about jealousy, positive relationships and to what extent and how this reflects on their relationship with other people. The qualities that predict loneliness in adolescence are affirmative and jealousy, respectively. The qualities of other sibling relationships are not a significant predictor. Themes obtained from qualitative interviews; Fortunately, it exists because of my father and everything. Adolescents tend to see the positive aspect of their relationship with their siblings when it comes to loneliness. In the context of subjective well-being in qualitative analysis; a counselor, a friend and more, we are in this state because and the annoying situations themes have been reached. Adolescents state that their subjective well-being affects their siblings in a positive way and the existence of their siblings is important. The quality of sibling relationships in young adulthood predicts anxious attachment. Jealousy is a strong predictor. As a result of qualitative analysis on how brother relationships predict anxious attachment; my mother is proud of me, a stormy relationship, I am jealous and I feel guilty because of my mother themes. The most powerful predictors of loneliness in young adulthood are affirmative and jealousy, respectively. Other qualities are not a meaningful predictor. As a result of qualitative analysis; It was good to have someone to talk to, what it would be like to be a single child and enough themes to be found. The quality of sibling relationships in young adulthood is a significant predictor of subjective well-being. Qualitative results confirm the analysis of the relationship between sibling relationships and subjective well-being in young adulthood. The themes obtained are respectively; expectations-expectations are in this state because and I feel valuable. Their brothers' presence makes them feel valuable, and their financial and moral support is good for them. The quality of sibling relationships in middle adulthood is a significant predictor of anxious and avoided attachment. Qualitative analysis carried out supports the quantitative results. Related to attachment in interviews; we cannot agree, my mother is taking sides, she is my partner, I take everyone for my brother and I am jealous. According to the quantitative findings, the strongest predictor of attachment is envy. Qualitative themes are in line with these discoveries. The quality of sibling relationships in middle adulthood is a significant predictor of loneliness. According to the quantitative findings, the strongest predictor of loneliness in middle adulthood is the differing attitude of the father. Other qualities do not significantly predict loneliness. In qualitative analysis; Nevertheless, I am jealous of me, and if no one understands me, those moments have been obtained. The participants emphasized the positive aspects of the existence of their siblings and stated that they continue to share with their siblings. It was found that sibling relationships in middle adulthood did not predict subjective well-being. It is observed that the qualitative themes obtained are in this direction. The first one has no effect, but it does. In middle adulthood, individuals continue their telephone communication with their siblings. However, they add that their siblings have no influence on their lives as a result of their disputes with their spouses, distance or siblings. In future research, it can be studied with wider age groups in addition to adolescents, young and middle adulthood. This is a cross-sectional study, longitudinal and more comprehensive research and sibling relationships can be addressed from different perspectives.
