The i̇nternet addiction of the adolescents depending on the manner of commintment to parents and the other various factors (Yenibosna Multi-Program Anatolian High School example)

In this study, the situation of the addiction to the internet of the students who continue their education in high schools has been examined by several variables. The scope of the study is the students continuing their secondary educations in Yenibosna Multi-Program Anatolian High School year of 2015-2016 in Istanbul, Bahçelievler. 270 of 10th 11th and 12th grade classes of students who are determined randomly are the samples of the research. In this study, Socio-Demographic Data Form was used for obtaining the personal knowledge of the students. In order to determine the levels of the addiction to the internet of the students, the Internet Addiction Scale developed by Young (1996) and adaption studies made by Bayraktar (2001) was used in the research. Besides, Commitment to Parents Scale developed by Parker and his colleagues (1979) and feasibility and reliability analyses made by Kapçı and Küçüker (2008) was used in order to examine the level of dependency on the parents. Chi-Square Test and Correlation Analysis were used in the analysis of the data has been obtained. These analysis took place with the Statistical Package Program SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 17.0. The following findings were reached extractly in the study: According to the sex of the students and the levels of the classes, there is not a significant differentation among the mean scores of Internet Addiction. There has been found a significant differentation among the mean scores of Internet Addiction according to the success level which has been perceived by students themselves. The level of internet addiction is lower for the students finding themselves successful or very successful than the students finding themselves unsuccessful or moderate. It has been found that there is a significant differentiation among the mean scores of Internet Addiction according to the economic conditions. The finding has been reached that the students having lower economic conditions are more addicted to the internet against the ones having moderate or high economic conditions. There has not been found a significiant differentation among the mean scores of Internet Addiction according to the education level of their parents. Between the total score of Commitment to Mothers Inventory and internet addiction, positive relationship has been observed. Analyzing the manner of the commitment to mothers against the internet addiction, the significant relationship has been found considering "Concern" and "Control" sub-factors, while there has been not any significant relationship according to "Overprotection" sub-factor. Between the total score of Commitment to Fathers Inventory and internet addiction, there has not been found any significant relationship. Analyzing the manner of the commitment to fathers against the internet addiction, there has not been found a significant differentation considering "Concern" and "Control" sub-factors, while weak positive relationship has been observed according to "Overprotection" sub-factor.
