The investigation of the level of test anxiety and problematic internet use of adolescents

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between the exam anxiety levels and the problematic internet using level of adolescents. The research was composed of 17-18 age average, 242 girl students and 286 boy students and totally 528 high school students living in Bergama, İzmir who had education between 2016-2017 education period chosen by multistage random sample technique. The data were collected by "West Side Test Anxiety Scale (WSTAS)", "Problematic Internet Using Scale (PIUS)" and a questionaire, which was developed by the researcher to gather demographic information of the participants. Data were analysed by SPSS 23 statistical data analyzing programme. In accordance with this purpose; students' exam anxiety levels have been determined and the factors which effects students anxiety levels for exams have been searched. Concurrently students' problematic internet using levels have been determined and the effects on exam anxiety status is analyzed. In this context students' gender, school type, grade retention status and family togetherness, academic success status are determined and examined the variables relationships. At the end of the research, it was determined that the use of problematic internet changed according to gender. It was determined that the women students who participated in the research had higher use of problematic internet than male students. There was no significant relationship between Parent Share Status and Problem Awareness and Problematic Internet Usage. It has been determined that the students who continue their education in vocational high schools have higher test anxiety than the students studying in Anatolian High School. Furthermore, it was determined that the students who are studying in Anatolian High School had higher use of problematic internet than the students who study in vocational high school. There was no significant relationship between classroom recall, test anxiety and classroom recall of problematic internet users. The level of academic achievement was lower than that of those with a higher academic achievement level.
