Abstract (EN)
Sleep is a temporarily state of unconsciousness where the sleeping person can wake up due to proper sensual or other stimuli and it covers about 1/3 of human life. Where sleep is a common process which ensures the maintenance of energy, improvement and repair of neurological system, the absence of sleep results in serious physical and cognitive impairment. In this respect, quality sleep is important for human life. In this study, we aimed to present the sleep quality in adults and the factors affecting it. This research was carried out on 265 individuals over 18 who resorted to Gaziosmanpasa University Medical Faculty Hospital Family Practice Department and agreed to participate in the research in the process of collecting data. After obtaining verbal consent, the questionnaire prepared by making a literature review on sociodemographic information, weight and height measurements and factors affecting sleep quality was carried out on those who agreed to participate. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was also used to assess sleep quality. The analysis was carried out with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version, program 19 (SPSS Inc, Chicago, IL). 55,1% of the participants were female. When the total score the participants got from the PSQI was evaluated; the rate of poor sleep quality was calculated as 54,3%. In this study we conducted to determine the factors affecting sleep quality; it was determined that those with chronic disease had worse sleep quality than those who did not and those on medication had worse sleep quality than those who were not. In addition, it was also found that those who had sleep problems before had worse sleep quality than those who had not and those with history of psychiatric disease had worse sleep quality than those did not. As a result, it's important questioning patients with chronic diseases, patients on medication, those who had sleep problems and those with a history of psychiatric diseases in terms of sleep disorders, finding out problems related to sleep which is crucial for human life and treating patients. In this respect, primary care physicians also have important duties as they are the first step of the patients. Key words: Adult, Sleep, Sleep Quality
