Investigation of the changes in masculinity

"Investigation of The Changes in Masculinity" themed master's thesis analysed the way men who rejected the dominant masculine identities construct their own identities via rejecting what, adopting what, and living what kind of experiences. For this purpose, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with eighteen men who identify themselves as antagonist. The research implemented conducted with feminist standpoint method. Sample composed of socialist, anarchist, communist, animal rights activist, conscientious objector, social democrat and (pro) feminist men in order to comprise men from different public oppositions. How the men interviewed within the research constructed their masculinities were questioned through their relations with fathers, circumcition, military service, having a job- power and starting a family. In order to trace how the alternative masculine identities were built, the reasons that bring these men to transformation were scrutinised. The data obtained indicates that key political thought behind the transformation of men is feminism. It is seen that the opponent men interviewed within the scope of this research has the potential to transform hegemonic masculinity. On the contrary, it is understood that they continue to cooperate with patriarchy in certain situations. Therefore, it is propounded that acting with deliberation is needed on the declaration of these men as an ally of feminism.
